A filiação do ex-prefeito Alexandre Kalil ao Republicanos “empurra” o senador Cleitinho Azevedo (Republicanos) para se filiar ao partido do ex-presidente Jair Bolsonaro após as eleições municipais. Os dois almejam ser candidatos ao governo de Minas em 2026. O comandante do Partido Liberal (PL), Valdemar Costa Neto, cogita transformar sua legenda na maior bancada no Senado, que hoje pertence ao PSD, visando fortalecer a oposição ao presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) e pressionar membros do judiciário, como o Supremo Tribunal Federal. O congressista de Minas Gerais faz parte desse projeto.
Na eleição de 2022, o PL chegou a ter 14 senadores e seria a maior bancada, mas com as mudanças de filiações partidárias ocorridas, o PSD continuou como o maior partido entre as 13 legendas presentes na Casa, com um total de 15 representantes. O PL contará com 12 senadores, seguido do MDB, com 11, e do PT, com oito. O PSD tirou do PL o senador Dr. Samuel Araújo (RO) e Jorginho Mello renunciou ao senado para assumir o governo de Santa Catarina (a suplente Ivete da Silveira é filiada ao MDB).
A tática envolve atrair no mínimo outros três senadores para suas fileiras, os quais devem ingressar no partido liderado pelo ex-presidente Jair Bolsonaro ainda durante este ano. Com a popularidade de Bolsonaro ainda em alta entre os eleitores, diversos políticos estão interessados em se juntar a ele e ao seu partido.
A entrada de Cleitinho para se filiar ao partido do ex-presidente é apenas mais um reflexo desse jogo de interesses existente no cenário político. O plano é atrair pelo menos quatro senadores para o seu grupo, contando com a participação de Cleitinho. Entre eles, estão Márcio Bittar (União Brasil-AC), Alan Rick (União Brasil-AC) e Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF).
