O Partido Novo está passando por uma forte turbulência interna, especialmente em Sete Lagoas, envolvendo divergências entre lideranças locais e a direção estadual. A disputa se intensificou após Juninho Sinonô, candidato à prefeitura de Sete Lagoas, criticar abertamente o governador Romeu Zema, acusando-o de ser autoritário e ingrato por tentar impedir a candidatura própria do partido na cidade de cerca de 250 mil habitantes, em favor de apoiar o deputado Douglas Melo (PSD).
O candidato em um vídeo publicado em rede social mencionou que estão lutando para que o governador Zema não entregue a legenda para um candidato que membros do partido Novo não apoiam. Ele ironiza lembrando que, em 2018, Zema era um candidato com apenas 2% das intenções de voto e que ninguém acreditava em sua vitória. No entanto, ele se dedicou muito à campanha de governador e acabou vencendo.
Apesar da pressão da executiva estadual do Novo, liderada por Christopher Laguna, para que o partido não lançasse uma chapa própria, membros locais discordaram e conseguiram registrar a candidatura de Sinonô e Saulo Calanz, que foi candidato à prefeitura em 2022 pelo Rede.

Com as candidaturas já registradas no sistema do Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE), a chapa foi aprovada definitivamente para a disputa eleitoral. Juninho Sinonô afirmou que sua candidatura foi respaldada no estatuto do Novo, e a executiva estadual do Novo decidiu respeitar a decisão do diretório local.
