Os senadores Cleitinho (Republicanos-MG) e Omar Aziz (PSD-AM) estão atuando para a suspensão temporária dos sites de apostas no Brasil. Cleitinho divulgou um vídeo em seu perfil no Instagram onde Omar Aziz explicou que fez um pedido à Procuradoria Geral da República (PGR) para que o Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) suspenda esses sites até que haja uma regulamentação efetiva do setor.
Os senadores enviaram à PGR uma Ação de Descumprimento de Preceito Fundamental (ADPF) ao procurador-geral da República, Paulo Gonet. A intenção é garantir que a regulamentação das apostas online seja respeitada e que essas plataformas funcionem de acordo com a legislação brasileira.
Omar Aziz destacou preocupações como o aumento significativo de saques em poupanças e de empréstimos consignados, mencionando que muitas pessoas têm recorrido a essas práticas para apostar. Ele alertou que crianças e jovens estão entre os que mais participam dessas apostas, afetando diretamente muitas famílias brasileiras. Aziz também criticou a Associação Brasileira de Emissoras de Rádio e Televisão (Abert) pela passividade em relação à propaganda de apostas e acusou celebridades de influenciar negativamente os jovens.
Cleitinho reforçou essas críticas e afirmou que a Justiça brasileira não está tomando as medidas necessárias contra os sites de apostas. Ele sugere que, assim como o ministro Alexandre de Moraes conseguiu retirar a rede social X (antigo Twitter) do ar, o mesmo deveria ser feito com as casas de apostas.
Cleitinho planeja entrar com uma ação no STF para tirar do ar as plataformas que não possuem representantes legais no Brasil, argumentando que essa questão não é ideológica e que exige uma intervenção imediata para proteger o Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente (ECA) e os direitos humanos.
O Governo Federal recebeu ao todo 113 solicitações de 108 empresas de apostas que desejam operar no Brasil.
Se autorizadas pelo Ministério da Fazenda, as empresas poderão atuar legalmente no país a partir de janeiro de 2025, quando começam a valer as regras da chamada lei das bets.

A partir de 2025, os sites que operarem no Brasil sem autorização estarão sujeitos a penalidades previstas em lei, que prevê multas de até R$ 2 bilhões por infração.
